LDAP Connection Failure?

topic posted Thu, June 23, 2005 - 1:24 AM by  Ribbon
Anyone seen this line in their log files?

InitLDAPConnection or ldap_init failure: Logging Failed LDAP connection with incomplete data

I've got it several times - I guess every minute or two.

I'm fairly certain it's because I tried setting up LDAP services on the server and have messed up some settings.

Any ideas on how to turn that off?

Thanks!

BTW: Mac OS X Server, 10.3.x (not sure exactly)

Just guessing, but is it blocked at the firewall?

Could be - what port does LDAP work on?

The point is, though, that I want to turn it off, or at least set it so it won't fill my log file :)

LDAP seems to run on port 389 and 636 (TCP and UDP) and admin traffic seems to go over port 3407 (according to /etc/services).

Check to see if you are mounting an LDAP database in amd.conf, if you have one.

Look in /etc/openldap. In particular, consider ldap.conf and slapd.conf.

In my system, which isn't using ldap, the URI line is commented out in ldap.conf. I suppose you should make sure it is commented out in yours.

Make sure there is no ldap entry in /etc/hostconfig.

That's all I can think of, and searching on my system which doesn't have LDAP running isn't helping me find much more out.

You could do a 'ps -auxww | grep -v grep' as root and see if there is a slapd running. There probably is. Then you could grep in /etc as root and see what file is calling for slapd to be running. Or, maybe you could do something in netinfo manager to turn it off.

Food for thought and experimentation. :-)
